How to Root Xperia Arc S running on Stock ICS Firmware



Want to root your Xperia Arc S running on Stock ICS Firmware? No problem, here’s how you can do it.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must be running on the stock ICS firmware.
2. Make sure your phone has at least 60% of battery life left to last through the entire process.
3. Close any Antivirus programs running on your PC as they can interrupt the rooting process.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the Root Toolkit from here.
2. Download the ADB Drivers from here.

III. Installing ADB Drivers:

1. Place the downloaded ADB Drivers file onto your Desktop.
2. Double-click the Flashtool-drivers.exe file to install the drivers.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

IV. Rooting Xperia Arc S running on Stock ICS Firmware:

1. Place the downloaded Root Toolkit archive onto your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the Root Toolkit archive and place them on your Desktop.
3. Enable USB debugging on your phone by heading to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Developer Options>>Development>>USB debugging.
4. Enable Unknown sources on your phone by going to Menu>>Settings>>Security>>Unknown sources.
5. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable that came with it.
6. While the phone is connected to PC, just double-click the runme.bat file to begin the rooting process.
7. Follow all the instructions that are displayed on your screen.
8. After it has finished rooting your phone, you will get a message saying All Done.
9. You can now disconnect your phone from the PC.
Your phone should now be rooted and you can now install the apps which run on rooted phones only. You can install the popular ClockworkMod Recovery on your Xperia Arc S by downloading the CWM AutoInstaller app from Google Play Store.

How to Unroot the LG Ally




Unrooting the LG Ally smartphone is a bit tricky, as the process involves some steps that the novice users might not be aware of. But you don’t have to worry as we have simplified everything for you in the following guide. If you’ve rooted your LG Ally and now want to return to stock, this guide is going to be useful for you. Let’s see how you can unroot your LG Ally smartphone.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You should have rooted your device using the guide given here.
2. This will not flash the stock recovery on your device.
3. The following procedure works on Windows based PCs only.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. LG Drivers (Download link’s given at the top, in the first post)
2. Root Package (Download link’s given in the first post, in Step-1)

III. Unrooting the LG Ally:

1. Download and place both the files on your Desktop.
2. Install the LG USB Drivers, they’re necessary in order for your device to be recognized by your PC.
3. Extract the Root Package archive to your Desktop. You should get a folder called LGNPST.
4. Inside the folder, you’ll have some files that can be installed on your PC. Install them in the following order:
LGNPST_General_v1.2_Lab_Version.msi
LGNPST_Components_Ver_4_0_22_0.msi
LGNPST_GenericModels_Ver_4_0_9_0.msi
5. After installing all the files mentioned above, go to the next step.
6. Copy the LGNPST.exe file you’ve inside the LGNPST folder over to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST.
7. On your Desktop, there’ll be a shortcut named LGNPST, delete it.
8. Head to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST folder and right-click on the file named LGNPST.exe and choose Send to>>Desktop (create shortcut).
9. Copy the VS740.dll file from the folder you extracted on your Desktop over to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST.
10. Open a Command Prompt Window in the C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST folder. To do so, just go inside that folder, press and hold the Shift button on your keyboard and right-click on any empty area on the screen, then choose Open command window here.
11. Type in the following command into the Command Prompt Window:
regsvr32 VS740.dll
12. You should see a confirmation message on your screen that the file is successfully registered.
13. Open the LGNPST shortcut you created on your Desktop by double-clicking on it.
14. Enable USB debugging on your smartphone from Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.
15. Connect your smartphone to your PC using the USB cable.
16. Your smartphone will be shown on the LGNPST tool interface. Click on it.
17. Choose File>>Select DLL and then select the VS740.dll file.
18. From the provision tab, choose the upgrade option.
19. Click on BIN File option and select the BIN folder, it’s inside the LGNPST folder on your Desktop.
20. Type *.* in the Open BIN File window.
21. Click on the file named VS740ZV6_01.TOT and then hit Open.
22. Check the box given next to the SCR File field and then in the browse folder section, choose the SCR folder you’ve inside the LGNPST folder on your Desktop.
23. Now, select the file named VS740ZV6_01.SCR and click Open.
24. Make sure that the option named NAM2 is unchecked.
25. Checkmark the box given next to PRL.
26. Click on the folder icon given next to the NAM1 option, choose the PRL folder which is located inside the LGNPST folder on your Desktop.
27. Select the 58005 – OEM EVDO DEFAULT.PRL file and click Open.
28. Hit the Start button in the tool and the script should run to unroot your device.
29. The process could take as much as 30 minutes. So, please be patient.
30. Your device should reboot after the process has finished.
31. Turn OFF your device.
32. Remove the batter from your device.
33. Replace the battery in your device, do NOT turn ON your device.
34. Now, press and hold the Volume UP+Home+End keys together on your device. It should factory reset your device.
35. Reboot your device in the normal mode.
36. Dial *228# from your device and select the Option #2.
37. Next, dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#* to install the OTA updates.
38. Your device’s now unrooted !
Wonderful! You’ve successfully unrooted your LG Ally smartphone. Although the procedure wasn’t that short nor for beginners, you did it successfully!

How to Install TWRP 2.1 Recovery on HTC One X



If you have been playing with your HTC One X for some time, you would have noticed that you need to press the keys to select options in the recovery mode. This is no more a case because you can now install touch-based TWRP 2.1 Recovery on your HTC One X. Here’s how you can do it.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have unlocked bootloader of your phone.
2. You must have ADB installed on your PC. Learn how you can do so from here.
3. Close the HTC Sync app if it’s running on your PC.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the TWRP 2.1 Recovery Image from here.
2. Download the Fastboot from here.

III. Installing TWRP 2.1 Recovery on your HTC One X:

1. Extract files from the Fastboot archive and place them on your Desktop.
2. Place the Recovery Image file on the Desktop of your PC.
3. Turn OFF your HTC One X using the Power key.
4. Boot your phone into the Bootloader Mode. To do so, press and hold both the Volume DOWN and the Power key.
5. From the Bootloader menu, choose the Fastboot option.
6. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable.
7. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop and type in the following commands:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-endeavoru-2.1.2.img
fastboot reboot
8. Your phone will reboot and you will see that the TWRP 2.1 Recovery has successfully been installed on your phone.

How to Unroot the Motorola Defy


If you have rooted your Motorola Defy smartphone using our guide, this sequence post should teach you how you can unroot your Motorola Defy using the easiest method available. The procedure to unroot the device won’t take more than a few seconds and at the end of the procedure, you’ll have an unrooted device. Here’s how you can unroot your Motorola Defy.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device using the procedure given here. If you rooted it using any other method, the following procedure may or may not work for you.
2. Charge your device to have at least 50% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. z4Root (It’s attached in the first post)

III. Unrooting the Motorola Defy:

1. Download the z4Root APK file to your Desktop.
2. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.
3. Copy the z4Root APK file over to the root folder of your SD card. It is the topmost folder.
4. Disconnect the device from your PC after the file is copied.
5. On your device, enable the USB debugging option. To do so, head to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging and tick-mark the box.
6. Now, open the File Manager on your device and locate the APK you copied earlier. Tap on it to install it on your device.
7. After the app is installed on your device, launch it from Menu.
8. Tap on Un-root button in the app.

9. It should then begin unrooting your device and when it’s done, your device should reboot.
10. You should be unrooted now!
Great! Your device has been successfully unrooted using the z4Root app. The warranty you lost after rooting the phone is now back and the phone is now as original as it was when you purchased it!

How to Root the Huawei Ascend II (Straight Talk)


                                            
If you happen to own the Huawei Ascend II device from Straight Talk, you’ll be glad to know that a root method is available for the device that will unlock true capabilities of the device and you’ll then be able to install apps available exclusively for rooted phones. Rooting also opens gates for custom recoveries that you can flash on your device, it’s a whole different thing, though. The first step towards customizing an Android device is rooting the device and in the following guide, we’ve shown how you can root your Huawei Ascend II (Straight Talk) smartphone. Follow all the steps carefully and you should have success.

I. Before You Begin:

1. This should void the warranty of the device. However, it can be reinstate by unrooting the device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. Make sure your device has at least 60% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Poot APK (Download link’s given in the first post, in step-1)
2. Miinistro II APK (Download link’s given in the first post, in step-2)

III. Rooting the Huawei Ascend II (Straight Talk):

1. Download and place both the APKs onto your Desktop.
2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
3. Copy both the APKs over to the root of your SD card.
4. Once the APKs are copied, unplug the device from your PC.
5. On your device, head to Menu>>Settings>>Security and enable Unknown sources option.
6. Now, open File Manager and install both the APKs one by one.
7. Once both are installed, launch the Poot app first.
8. It’ll download some library files so you’ve to wait for a few minutes.
9. Once it’s done, tap the button labeled as Press here to poot.
10. It’ll begin rooting the device.
11. Once it’s done, reboot the device.
12. Open the Poot app once again and tap the button labeled as Built-in root check.
13. After the root access is confirmed, head over to Google Play and install the Superuser app.
14. You’re all done!
Well done! Your device has been successfully rooted and you can now install any of your favorite root-only apps, you just have to grant permission to the app to access system level files!
